We read the reviews before buying, so we expected a long, frustrating assembly process. But it wasn’t bad at all. Yes, it seems flimsy at first. And some patience is required (trying to keep the four wood pole pieces in place while screwing in the hardware… all while trying to keep everything else lined up). But if you don’t try to fully tighten everything as you go, it doesn’t take long at all. Just tighten things enough to hold them in place, while allowing enough wiggle room to get pieces back in their slots as you go. Once everything’s together (excluding the top half of the coat rack), then go around and tighten all the screws. We ended up making 5 or 6 rounds. As you tighten one, then others gain more room to tighten. And so on. We just kept going around until all of ‘em were very tight (but without stripping the threads). So the base and umbrella stand ended up being very sturdy. Then, screwing the hooks on the top piece and adding the top piece to the base was super easy. The umbrella stand compartments are much larger than we pictured. You could probably fit about 20 umbrellas total. Initially, the umbrellas kept sliding to the other end. We ended up adding some shelf liner to the base to prevent items from sliding. Cut a square to fit. Cut the corners a bit. Cut a square for the center. And cut a line to the center (from edge or corner). I’m sure there are many other solutions to this “problem.” And there’s room to store other items. With the 4 double hooks, theres a limit to the number of coats you can hang. But we are dealing with limited space in the corner of the narrow foyer, and this piece works perfectly. The quality is very good overall. And, as other reviews mentioned, the finish is like a dark cherrywood stain + top coat. We are really pleased with both the appearance and function of this piece. Good value. Would recommend.
